Austin Craft Riot Holiday Show 2011

Hi!  I have been away for a little while.  The past couple of weeks have included the holiday show, my birthday and house cleaning to get ready for my sister's visit this weekend.

I wanted to stop by to show you a few of  the pictures I took of my booth at the Austin Craft Riot Holiday Show.  I didn't get many pictures.  I just didn't think about it during the craziness.  Next show I'll try to do better.

This is the booth I shared with my awesome friend Bridget from LPF Designs.

I love the way it turned out.  With all of the lights and stars it really stood out in the room.

This is my table.  I love my new banner!

I'm going to be making some small changes to my displays for my next show but over all I'm very happy with the way it looked.  It was a great weekend and I'm so happy that Austin Craft Riot was my first big show.  I can't wait to do another one!  :-)

Austin Craft Riot Holiday Show

After months of preparations the day is finally here!  This weekend is the 4th Annual Austin Craft Riot Holiday Show!

If you live in the Austin area be sure to stop by and say hi.  I'm sharing a booth with my friend Bridget from LPF Designs.   Get there early if you can.  The first 25 people each day will receive a really awesome goodie bag full of handmade stuff from our vendors.

For those of you who don't live here I'll do my best to take some booth pictures so you can see.  :-)

Have a great weekend!

Austin Craft Riot Holiday Show

I have been mentioning preparing for craft shows a lot lately so I thought I would fill you in on why I'm working so hard right now.  On November 12th & 13th I will be participating in the 4th annual Austin Craft Riot Holiday Show!

This is the first big craft show I have ever done.  I was so nervous about applying.  I applied with my friend Bridget from LPF Designs and we got accepted!  I can't wait to share a booth with her.  It's been fun planning what we want our booth to look like.  You should see her shop. She makes really beautiful stuff.

I'm a little worried about being ready in time since I have been busy working on consignment orders for two stores for the last couple of months but I think I'll have enough...I hope I'll have enough.  ;-)

I will be posting lots of sneak peeks of the fun things I'm making and all of my new displays as I get them ready.  Did you see the Dreaming in Craft sign I posted last weekend?

If you live in the Austin area you should come out and see us in November!

Make it Work

I will be at the SoCo Pop-Up shops market on South Congress by the food trailers in Austin today.  If you're in the area stop by and say hi!

Remember my new felt pins?

I'm taking them with me to the market today so I needed a way to display them on the table.  First I was going to just take a cute plate and set them on there but then I remembered that outdoor markets are tricky because of the wind.  I usually end up taping things down to the table so I'm not chasing them all day.  I bought a "metal" picture frame at Walmart for really cheap and planned to print out my business logo for the frame and then attach the pins around the edge.  Then I figured out why the frame was only $4!  It wasn't metal!  Not magnetic at all!

I knew there was a way to turn a frame into a magnetic board so I hit the internet to figure out what kind of metal I would need to buy to put in the frame.  I found this simple tutorial on Daisy Craft and she used a piece of sheet metal and cut it down to size.

I decided to change it up and cover the metal with fabric instead of paper.  It just seemed more like me.  I love fabric!

I didn't cut the fabric at all.  It's just folded to the back and taped down.  That way I can change out the fabric anytime I want and still use it for other projects!

Here's the finished product!

What do you think?  Have you made any displays for your crafts?  I would love to hear about what you made.

Renegade Craft Fair

Today I went to Renegade Craft Fair in Austin.  I've been waiting for this for...well, since I went last year!  It was huge!  I had a hard time not going crazy and buying tons of stuff.  I took a lot of cards from people so I would remember them when I want to do some more shopping.  There were so many talented people there!  I thought it would be less busy on Sunday.  I was wrong!

Here is what I came home with.

I had to have something from My Paper Crane.  It's no secret that I LOVE her plushies!  I got this cute little strawberry.

I found these little heart earrings from Isette.

Next up I got these awesome brooches from This Creative Life.  I knew I was going to buy some of these before I went.  I hadn't seen all the designs before today.  I'm pretty sure I'm going to collect them all.  I have to have the little flower brooch, too!  I probably should have just bought them all while I was there.  Oh well.  Now I have something to look forward to.  :-)

My Mustachasaurus necklace from Grrfeisty was one of the things I knew I was going to buy before I went to the show today.  I love it!

I'm very happy with everything I bought.  It was so nice to meet people and see their work in person.  I'm such a nerdy fan!  :-)

First Thursday

It's finally time to tell you about my first craft market!  I didn't get to walk around at all so I only got to take a few pictures of my table this time.  Hopefully I'll have a little more time to check out other booths on Saturday.  I just took these pictures really quick while no one was at the booth so they aren't great.

I woke up Thursday and my internet decided to be nice to me!  So, I started the day with a little blogging.

My table (My friend Maja had some of her stuff there, too)
I ran out of space so I couldn't put all of my items out this time.  I need to get a second table!

My rings look great in this display!  This one belongs to my friend RenĂ©e.  I wasn't able to get one in time because the store I tried to get it from was sold out.  I ended up ordering one online this weekend because they were still out when I went back on Saturday.  The seller assured me that it would be here by the middle of the week.  I'm a little worried because I don't have a back up plan.  Any suggestions for how to display my rings if it doesn't come in time?

I love the way my necklaces look on this cute necklace tree!

My ponytail holders and clips look so great with my new product cards!  This made me so happy!  I had to improvise on the price cards a little.  I had originally planned to sell them as pairs but ended up selling them individually.  I think it was a wise decision.  People really liked them.
I had all the clips and ponytail holders looking so nice and facing the same way but the wind kept blowing them around.  They were all even and pretty once I got smart and double stick taped them to the table.  :-)  I just got too busy to re-photograph them.

I ran out of time to make more cell phone cases, but I went ahead and put the one I had out.  It didn't sell but people complimented it a lot.  I might try some different designs and see how it goes.

I'm still not sure if I'm going to continue to sell the postcards.  I like them and I actually sold one of the live music postcards, but they don't really go with the look of my other products.  Any thoughts?

Last but not least...the plushies!!!  I was very surprised at how well these sold!  I'm scrambling to make a few to replace the ones I sold before Saturday!  Everyone thought the cookie monster was a doughnut.  It was pretty funny.  I might have to make a doughnut now!  ;-)
This picture was taken after all of the mini plushies were sold so I actually had a couple more in there at the beginning of the day.
I guess that's it.  I think my first time out there was a huge success and I can't wait to try it again on Saturday.  Even if I don't do well at all of them it's really fun and I'm so happy that I can finally share my work with other people!  I think that's what crafting is all about!  :-)

Let the Wild Rumpus Start

So...I am still without working internet at my house most of the time...but not today!!!  It's working today!  Hopefullly it will be up and running permenantly by Saturday.

I have so many amazing things happening in the next few weeks that I want to share with you!

  1. First Thursday is TODAY!!! It's my first market!!! I'm so excited...and nervous...but mostly excited!
  2. I have been working on more plushies!
  3. I still have my little craft experiment to finish
  4. I'm going to start working on ideas to submit to Art-o-Mat soon.  Hopefully I'll have something ready to send in April.
  5. I'm still trying to get my Etsy up and running (I'm so close...waiting for the internet to be back and I'll start listing what I have photographed so far.).
  6. Friday is installation day for the Knitted Wonderland project.  It is going to be so pretty!
  7. Next Saturday is my second market.  This one is with Bridget from Love Peace Family and I am so looking forward to spending time with her.  :-)

Wow!  That's a lot of stuff.  I'm sure I'm forgetting things, too!

I just wanted to stop by real quick while I have internet that isn't on my phone and let you know that I may be gone for a few days.  It's going to be so hectic that I don't even think I'll have time to blog before Saturday even if I have internet.  But, don't worry.  I'll take lots of pictures and when I get back I'll have so many fun stories to tell.

First Thursday Countdown

I have some sad news, Friends.  Due to bad weather First Thursday was canceled tonight.  I'm a little heartbroken.  I've been working towards this goal for over a month.  The good news is that I have another month to make lots more cute things for March.  I'm actually planning on selling at two markets in March so I have a lot do make.  :-)

I have decided to look on the bright side about this.  Now I have a whole month to come up with lots of new designs.  Plus, now I can focus on finishing my Knitted Wonderland project this weekend and I can work on getting my Etsy shop open.  Stay tuned.  It's coming soon!

I was still working on getting ready right up until I got the official word came on Tuesday night so I do have a couple of pictures to share with you today.  I will continue to share pictures as I finish projects and displays for next month, too.

Pierre
I made Pierre a while ago and thought he would be perfect to take to First Thursday.  He might be the only one.  It takes me so long to stitch the mustache!  I can't draw it on because I'm afraid I will mess up so I just free hand it.  So annoying!!!  Good thing he's cute!  I'm thinking the rest of his friends will not be French.  American owls are cute, too, right?  ;-)

Necklace Display
I bought this super cute neccklace tree to display my button necklaces at my booth.  I love the way it looks!  I have a few pendants on chains so people can see them as necklaces and then I have a few pendants on the other branches.  The rest are sitting on the tray at the bottom of the tree.  This is my favorite display piece so far!

Postcards
I went round and round trying to figure out how I wanted to display my postcards.  I finally decided to just buy some frames and stand them up on the table so people could see them.  I think they look nice.  I still haven't decided if I'm going to sell the postcards once these are gone.  I don't know that they really fit the style of the rest of items.  What do you think?  Honest opinion, please.  :-)

Felt Flower Hair Clips
I made these little cards for my hair clips and ponytail holders to use for this First Thursday.  Hopefully by next month I'll have my logo finished and I can make packaging with it.  YAY!!  This card was just to use in the meantime.  I loved using my new tiny hole punch to make them!  Yep, I'm a nerd.  ;-)

Okay, that's all I have for now.  I'll keep you posted on all the future pretties I make for First Thursday in March.

For now, the countdown continues....

First Thursday Countdown

Oh my gosh!  Only one more week til the big day!  EEKS!!!!

Next week I will show you pictures of how I plan to display things in my booth.

Plushies
I'm taking Seymour, Pierre and Rio with me this time.  I hope to have more time to design some new plushies now that I have an inventory built up to take with me.  I will just add new items as I make them.

Rio is my Charity: Water plushie.  I will donate the money I make from this plushie directly to Charity: Water.  :-)

Sadly I did not finish Pierre in time to show you a picture.  He's only about halfway done right now.  I will have to show you a picture next week.

Felt Flower Hair Clips
This is one of the new things I made specifically for First Thursday.  They are so simple and cute!  I hope they sell so I can make more.  I think I'll try different shapes and sizes on the next batch, too.

Felt Flower Ponytail Holders
These are basically the same as the hair clips.  I just put the flowers on ponytail holders this time.  I just thought some people might prefer ponytail holders to clips so I wanted to give them options.

Fabric Button Necklaces
Fabric buttons are my new favorite thing to make.  I had to find something else to make to go along with the rings just so I could make more!  I'm thinking about trying earrings with smaller buttons next, but I'm still not sure yet.  Something to look forward to.  :-)

First Thursday Countdown

It's Thursday which means the countdown to the big day continues!  This week I have some of my very favorite items to share.  :-)

Fabric Button Rings

These are my favorite!!  If I could just make these all day every day I would.  They are so cute and fun!  I made two sizes.  I know some people prefer smaller rings and other people like to go crazy and wear big rings.  I may even make a larger size for the next market.  What do you think?

I had a few extra buttons so I made some more.

Puffy Picture

I'm only taking the turtle this time.  If they sell I will make some more ladybugs and maybe try some new ideas, too.

Cell Phone Cases

I have made a few of these before.  I made a couple for my mom to give friends as gifts.  Then I made one for her for Christmas and I made the Longhorn case for my sister for Christmas, too.  I figured I should probably at least make a couple to take with me.

I'm working on one more cell phone case but it's only about halfway done.  I'll have to show you that one next Thursday, I guess.  :-)

I can't believe it's only two weeks away!!!

First Thursday Countdown

As I have mentioned before I'm getting ready for my very first craft market in February.  I'm very excited but also very, very nervous.  I chose to try out First Thursday in South Austin first since I'm familiar with it.

Some of the projects I've been working on are things I have made before and shared here on the blog and some things are completely new.  The new projects will get posts of their own of course, but I thought it would be fun to count down to the big day by sharing some pictures of all the items I plan to take with me.

Let the coundtown begin!

Postcards

I made postcards out of some of my 365 Project pictures.  If they sell I will choose some more pictures to print.

Bunting

Not much to say about this one.  I just love bunting and I had a bunch of scrap fabric left over from a project (I always buy way too much).

Mini Plushies
I decided to just make Archimedes for the first market to see if anyone liked them.  If they do I will make some more Stellas and try some new designs.

Wristaches

Wristaches were really just a joke project that I tried for Movember but I wanted to bring some because I think they fit my craft style and personality...and they make me laugh!  :-)

Stay tuned next Thursday for another look at some more of my First Thursday projects!  :-)

Mystery Solved

I got my necklaces!!!  Do you remember the necklaces I have been obsessing over since Renegade Craft Fair?  The awesome polaroid necklaces?  Of course you do!  I haven't shut up about them since I saw them!!  ;-)

Velma figured out that the shop that makes and sells them is Kailo Chic.  She has an Etsy shop, too!  And the best part is she's in Austin!  I love to support local Austin artists.  She has a lot of really pretty accessories in her shop and the prices aren't bad!  Very reasonable.  She has amazing taste in fabric!  I have a feeling I will be purchasing more from her in the future.

Here's the picture that started at all.  I just wanted to take a picture because they were so cute!!  When I got home and started looking through my pictures I just had to have one!

So, Velma tracked her down and contacted her throught Etsy (I didn't have my account at the time) and ordered them for us.  I got the Austin mural for me and the UT tower at night for my mom and sister.  Velma ordered the necklace of the UT tower during the day.
This is the picture from the order on Etsy.

Here are some pictures of the little lovelies in person!

This is mine. It's not in the package anymore.  I had to put it on immediately!

This is the UT tower necklace that my mom and sister got.

Pretty in pink!

I am so glad we were able to track these necklaces down.  They are so fun and unique.  I can't wait to wear it around and show my Austin pride!
