The Sweetest Thing

Look what Katja from Maedchenmitherz sent me!
Aren't these the loveliest buttons you have ever seen??

When I got home today and opened the mail box to find this, my not-so-great Monday turned into a magical day!  Thank you so much Katja!

This made me smile!  :-)

Happy Mail - Goodies & Grasshoppers

I had so much fun participating in Happy Mail this month.  I definitely made a new friend out of this experience.  And it was super fun finding presents to send her, too.  Plus, who doesn't love getting mail??

We started out exchanging cards.

We emailed a couple of times to get to know each other a little bit better before we sent off our goodies.

After that it was time to get the packages ready to go!

This is what I sent to Laura.
  • Postcards & whale cards
  • Giraffes
  • Tiny Journal
  • Coin Purse
  • Bracelet & Ring
  • Fabric & Thread
  • Bunting (made by me)
  • Knit Headband (made by Velma)

These are the goodies Laura sent me!

I love everything she sent me!!  She sent all of my favorite things!

A lovely card

Fabric
I can't wait to make something pretty with it!

 BUTTONS!!!

These are my favorite.

She made this really cute felt pouch to hold the buttons.

Did you see what was on the front of the felt pouch?
LOVE IT!!!

Some very cute little felt hearts
These will be so perfect to accent some of my felt projects!

I told her that I love children's books.  She told me her favorite and I hadn't read it.  She sent it to me so I could read it!  This was my favorite gift that she sent.  So thoughtful!  I can't wait to read it!

And she sent me the perfect reading snack (aka my favorite candy)...Sour Patch Kids!!

I had so much fun participating in Happy Mail!  I recommend it to everyone.  I got really lucky with my awesome partner.  I look forward to keeping in touch with her in the future.  I have a thing or two in mind that I want to send her later on when I have time to sit down and work on them.  :-)

You're probably wondering why I titled this blog Goodies & Grasshoppers.  Don't worry.  I didn't send Laura any grasshoppers (I don't think).  ;-)  I was taking pictures of the goodies I sent Laura and it was too dark inside.  So I went outside on the porch but it was still too dark.  I ended up setting it all up in the front yard where I had direct sunlight.  Well, two grasshoppers decided to take over my little photoshoot.  They wouldn't leave!  They just kept jumping to a new place in the picture.  Of course, they were in a place where I couldn't crop them out so I decided to just let them be part of the pictures.

Here are some pictures of my little models.

Fun with Felt - Bunting

I have seen those really cute flag banners all over the place recently and I thought they seemed simple enough to make.  They can be made out of almost anything.  I've seen them made out of paper, fabric, felt, plastic...  And they can be all kinds of shapes and sizes.  Very fun!

Did you know those banners are called bunting?  What's up with that??  I was reading The Dainty Squid a few weeks ago and she had them on her blog made out of my very favorite thing...FELT!!!  I thought it might be fun to make one for my Happy Mail partner with her name on it.  So, I got to work!

A few days after I started working on mine Kaylah posted a tutorial about the bunting she made.  How perfect was that???

I found a triangle bunting pattern online and cut my triangles out of felt.

Then I cut out my letters and sewed them onto the flags.

Then I sewed the flags onto some double bias tape.

That's it!!

Here's the finished product.

Next time I am going to just draw triangles on my own.  The flag pattern I used has a little top to it but I couldn't really get them even so the flags weren't the exact same size.  Other than that it was a really easy project.  I am so hooked on bunting now.  I want to make one for all of my friends!  Someday when I have time I just might do that. I want to make a bunting for my future craft room, too.  I will post more details about that later.  :-)

Happy Mail = New Friends & New Toys

This Monday started out feeling very Monday-ish.  I was really tired and my allergies were being so mean to me!  I decided to try my best to make it a good day.  I took my sewing with me to work on during my lunch break.  That was a great idea!  I had something to look forward to all morning and then I was refreshed and ready to go back to work after lunch.  I didn't get a lot of sewing done, but it still felt good.

When I got home I checked the mail.  Guess what!  My Happy Mail came today!!!  I'm so excited!

I love the card!  I cannot even believe how much we have in common.  I got a great Happy Mail partner for sure!!!  I hope I can live up to her awesomeness a even a little bit.  :-)

I got this postcard to send her from my coworker Glade.  Her Etsy shop is called Glademade.  I wanted it to have something to do with Austin.  Glade did a great job!

I got a different kind of happy mail on Friday.  I ordered this super cute Huggle from AJthePurple.  I saw these on her blog and thought they were adorable.  I have recently developed a love for handmade toys and really wanted one of these little cuties.

Meet Taffy!

AJ even decorated the envelope with a picture!
Thank you!

It really is fun to open the mail box and find something fun instead of just junk mail or bills.  Makes me smile!

Have you gotten anything fun in the mail recently?  I'd love to hear your happy mail stories, too!  :-)

Happiness is...Happy Mail

Getting mail is so fun!!  Usually all we seem to get in the mail is bills or junk mail, but then sometimes we open up that mail box and find some great surprise inside.  That's the best feeling!!!

I love the great feeling when something I ordered finally comes in the mail and I open the mailbox to find it waiting there for me!  I think sometimes the anticipation of the package coming is actually more exciting than the thing I ordered.

I can't even imagine how excited PostSecret creator Frank Warren must feel when he checks his mail!  He is very lucky!

I saw these really cute necklaces at The Renegade Craft Fair but I was trying to not spend a lot of money there so I didn't buy one.  Silly me forgot to get her card, too!!  Luckily my friend Velma found the shop on Etsy and she was able to order the necklace.  I got one for me, my mom and my sister!  I went a little crazy!  Velma was so awesome and kept me posted on the status of the package the whole time.  It was so fun!  The necklaces came in on Tuesday so I will get them from her when I see her on Sunday!  I'll post pictures when I get them.  I'm so excited!!!

The real reason for this happiness post is to tell you that I signed up to participate in this amazing thing called Happy Mail.   I found Happy Mail on the creator's blog called Inspired Mess.  It's a really great blog.  You should definitely read it.

The basic idea of Happy Mail is this...

You sign up and fill out a survey.  Your survey will be given to someone and you will get their survey.  During that month you send them one post card and a fun little package of goodies that you pick from the information on the survey.  They will do the same thing for you.  Doesn't that sound like so much fun??  I'm supposed to find out who my partner is this weekend.  I can't wait!  I'm going to buy some Austin postcards from my coworker Glade.  She makes cards and sells them in her Etsy shop Glademade.  I am so excited to start searching for goodies for my Happy Mail partner.  And I'll be watching my mailbox all month long to see what my partner sends me!

Have you gotten anything special in the mail lately?  :-)

Makes me happy!
