Music Monday - Blue Valentine

Yesterday I finally watched Blue Valentine.  That was a sad movie.  But is was so good.  I have mixed feelings because it had a great love story but it was so hard to watch it fall apart.  Just see it.  Then you'll understand.

There is a song in the movie that I couldn't stop thinking about after it was over so I looked it up and found that it's called You and Me.  The group is called Penny and The Quarters.  Have you heard it?

This song is a rehearsal that was recorded by Numero Group in a studio some time in the seventies.  The tapes were put away and lost for years.  No one really knows anything about it.  They haven't been able to find any members of the group.  It's a mystery.  I wonder what would have happened if that group had actually been heard all those years ago.  Just imagine all the great music they could have made.  I'm happy we got to hear this one.  It's so special.

This is one of my favorite scenes from the movie.  The song is called You Always Hurt The Ones You Love.  It's an old standard that has been recorded by many different artists since the 1940s.

Whoever picked the songs for this movie did an awesome job!  I love it when a movie looks outside the mainstream to find really special songs that fit just right.

Punk Projects ATC Swap

Last year I made a few ACEOs (well, my version of an ACEO...I don't want to put myself in a category with the real artists) and really loved it.  I love the idea of making art that's so tiny.  :-)  I haven't made any in a while so I was very excited when I saw that Katie from Punk Projects was hosting an ATC swap in May.  I signed up as soon as she announced it.

I wanted to make another felt card (of course) and this is what I came up with.

I drew this simple little guy and cut him out of felt.  He looked like he wanted to say hi so I embroidered some letters.  Did you see the four french knots on this card?  I finally figured out how to do that a few weeks ago thanks to this awesome tutorial from Sublime Stitching!  I'm obsessed with them now!

I'm very excited about the ATC I got from my partner.

It's actually TWO cards that go together as a set!

Isn't that cool??  I love it so much!  I can't wait to find a fun way to display it.

Have you ever made an ATC?  What did it look like?

Happy Friday!

Do you have any big plans for your Friday night?  I do!

I will be spending my night relaxing on the couch and watching this...

I love Whale Wars!  Don't ask me why.  I really don't know.  I just found it one night when I was flipping channels during the first season and I have been watching ever since.  It's one of my favorite things about summer!  :-)

In case I don't sound nerdy enough for you...I'm so excited that Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution is coming back tonight, too!  Yay!!!  Both shows are on at the same time.  This is one of those days that I am very thankful for my DVR!  Hehe!

Have a great night!  I'll be back tomorrow with a new project to show you.  :-)

Project Inspiration - Embroidery Hoop Wall Art

I'm back with another great project find.  I found this one when I was looking at embroidery hoop art online.  I love to find fun ways to use embroidery hoops.

Look at this awesome idea for a piece of wall art!

You can find this pretty project over at All Things Thrifty.  I think I might try to make a smaller version of this to hang in my house somewhere.  Or I could make a couple of smaller pieces to hang together.  Maybe in my hallway?  My embroidery hoops look kind of lonely on the wall in there.  :-)

I love how she came up with a completely new use for this simple little hoop.  Have you ever used a craft supply for something completely different than it's original purpose?

Project Inspiration - Scrap Paper Chandelier

I find so many awesome project ideas all over the internet but then when I actually have time to work on them I forget what projects I wanted to try.  That's what I love so much about Pinterest.  I can have an entire board dedicated to all of these amazing projects.  I'm considering making Thursday the day I share all the great tutorials I plan to try.

Someone pinned this awesome lamp shade chandelier project on Pinterest yesterday and I (of course) repinned it immediately.  I want to make this for my house.  It looks like so much fun!

Isn't it awesome??  I wonder if I could use fabric for the whole shade.  After I make a batch of fabric button jewelry I have weird shaped fabric scraps left over.  They could be perfect for this project.

You can find this tutorial over at More Design Please.  I can't wait to look through her blog and see what other project inspiration I can find.

Have you found any tutorials you're excited to try?

p.s.  Be sure to come back this afternoon.  I have another Project Inspiration post for you.  I'm pretty excited to try this one.  You don't want to miss it!  :-)

In Your Eyes - When You're Home

Today is the day we start the In Your Eyes project!  I'm really excited to see what you guys come up with.

I decided to keep it simple for the first month and choose When You're Home as the theme.

All you have to do is take a picture of something that makes your town special to you.  Pretty easy, right?

Here are a few of the things that make Austin special to me.

Art
You can just turn a corner and find beautiful art all over the city.

Music
Listening to live music is my very favorite thing!

Food
There are so many great restaurants and food trailers everywhere!

Now all you have to do is go out and take pictures!  The deadline for emailing the pictures will be Monday, June 27th and the final post will go up on Thursday June 30th.  If you can't get your picture to me by the deadline just send me an email and I'm sure we can figure something out.  Send all emails to me at dreamingincraft@gmail.com.

I'll post the pictures on Flickr and will create a button on the blog so you can get to it easily.  You can even add the link to your blog and invite your friends to join in if you want to.  :-)  I'll let you know when that's all finished.

Have fun!
